Description

The act of moving goods by hand or through physical force is known as “manual handling”. It includes lifting, pushing, tugging, carrying, tossing, and moving loads. This is a standard procedure in many industries, including agriculture, construction, manufacturing, retail, transportation, and others.

More than a third of all workplace accidents, as well as work-related musculoskeletal diseases (MSDs) and repetitive strain injuries, are thought to be caused by manual handling. Failure to do so safely can have serious consequences for employers and expose workers to harm.

Employers and employees have a shared responsibility to implement practical health and safety measures when undertaking manual handling.
