SENIOR MANAGER COMPLIANCE

The Senior Manager – Risk & Compliance provides commercial and operational leadership across a portfolio of client compliance engagements. As a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, including boards, C-suite executives, and regulatory bodies, this role shapes the strategic direction of the Risk & Compliance pillar, drives significant business development activity, and develops the next generation of technical and commercial talent within the practice. This is a client-facing role responsible for delivering compliance engagements across our client base, with the flexibility to support internal audit engagements as required. The successful candidate must be PQ’d and have proven experience in a similar compliance role within the financial services industry.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own the full delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary compliance engagements
• Act as Compliance Officer for client entities where appointed.
• Liaise directly with the MFSA, FIAU, and other regulatory authorities on behalf of clients, and coordinate with external advisors and other service providers on client matters.
• Draft, review, and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and internal frameworks across client engagements, supporting regulatory reporting, governance processes, and policy development.
• Develop and maintain Compliance Monitoring Programmes tailored to each client’s regulatory profile.
• Perform and oversee second-line testing of first-line business controls in line with risk-based compliance monitoring plans.
• Identify, monitor, track and assess applicable laws, regulations and guidance relevant to client portfolios, contributing to compliance monitoring and regulatory implementation across MiFID, AIFMD, UCITS, and other relevant frameworks.
• Guide and communicate with the department applicable regulatory updates.
• Advise client boards and senior management on compliance-related matters, and deliver compliance training to client staff where required.
• Guide Managers and Senior Associates in resolving complex delivery and regulatory challenges.
• Ensure technical excellence, commercial governance, and risk management across all managed engagements, managing day-to-day workload across the portfolio to ensure deadlines and deliverables are met.
• Review and approve high-stakes client deliverables, regulatory submissions, and strategic advisory outputs.
• Hold accountability for the quality, consistency, and commercial integrity of outputs across the portfolio.
• Support business development efforts, including identifying opportunities within existing and prospective client relationships.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Proven experience in a compliance, risk, or regulatory advisory role, ideally within financial services.
• PQ’d with the MFSA..
• Strong working knowledge of Maltese and EU regulatory frameworks including MiFID II, AIFMD, UCITS, AML/CFT, GDPR, and outsourcing requirements.
• Experience acting as Compliance Officer or Key Function holder for regulated entities.
• Experience liaising directly with regulators such as the MFSA and FIAU.
• Strong analytical, drafting, presenting, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously to demanding deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders, boards, and C-suite executives.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams through coaching, feedback, and performance management.
• Commercially aware with experience in pipeline management, business development, and client relationship growth.
• Exposure to internal audit work is an advantage but not essential.
• Smart, highly motivated, well-presented individual with strong attention to detail.
