On June 20, over 100 professionals, thinkers, and business leaders gathered at the Salini Resort for a Business Breakfast hosted by NOUV, themed “Balancing Brains & Bots.” The event created a timely and much-needed space to explore how human intelligence and artificial intelligence can work together—rather than compete—in today’s evolving business landscape.

Held at the elegant Mistral Lounge, the morning brought together expert-led talks, a dynamic panel discussion, and open networking over breakfast. The focus? Understanding how organisations can lead through innovation while staying anchored in ethics, emotional intelligence, and purposeful leadership.

Reimagining Optimisation and Putting People First

Two keynote sessions sparked deep reflection:

🔹 Maria Varga, Director of Performance Optimisation & Transformation at NOUV, delivered “The Human Engine: Driving Growth Without AI”. She shared historical and modern examples of transformation through human resilience—emphasising that real progress stems not from machines, but from people, process, and purpose.

🔹 Andrew Naudi, Senior Partner for Technology at NOUV, followed with “Re-imagining Optimisation for the Next Era.” He explored how AI is enabling optimisation in industries like finance, logistics, and healthcare, while warning against overdependence. His message was clear: AI works best when it supports—not replaces—human decision-making.

A Conversation That Resonated

The panel discussion, moderated by Andrew Naudi, featured a diverse mix of voices:

  • Prof. Alexiei Dingli, AI Expert & Professor, University of Malta
  • Angela Attard Fenech, Head of Governance, Tumas Group
  • Rebecca Bonnici, CEO, BELS English Language Schools
  • Paul Borg Bonaci, Managing Director, Elia Caterers
  • Graziella De Martino, Director, Technology Advisory, NOUV

From ethical AI to workforce transformation, the panelists explored some of today’s most pressing questions:
 📌 What should remain human-led?
📌 Where can AI be ethically and effectively applied?
📌 How can leadership navigate this change responsibly?

What Attendees Said

What made the event especially impactful was the insight and engagement it sparked among attendees. Here are just a few reflections shared publicly:

“AI is the engine—but people are the fairy dust. Tools don’t transform; human insight does.”
 — Rebecca Bonnici, Panelist & CEO of BELS

“The event inspired me to reflect on how AI and human capital can work hand-in-hand—especially in the context of Industry 5.0.”
 — Colin Calleja, Leadership Consultant

“Proud to be part of a team that’s leading the conversation on how people and technology can grow stronger together.”
 — Francesca Zammit, Senior Associate, NOUV

“A really insightful panel packed with thought-provoking perspectives.”
 — Neil Baldacchino, Business Development Leader

“The event tackled critical issues like privacy, accountability, and the risk of scaling inefficiencies through automation.”
 — Michael Calleja, Financial Services Lawyer

The Takeaway

At its core, the Business Breakfast delivered a message that will shape conversations to come:

The future of business isn’t brains vs bots—it’s about blending both for better outcomes.
